Outline

Introduction to SharePoint Server Farms

We start the course off with explaining what constitutes the various types of server farms and how to do capacity planning for each. We also discuss the various components of a SharePoint Server environment such as web front ends, search servers, index servers, and job servers.

Migrating from a Single Server Farm to a Small Server Farm

In this module we cover how to scale from a single server to a small server farm. This module includes an extensive hands-on lab on this process. Even if you already have a multi-server farm, this module is important because we use the module to better understand disaster recovery for the portal and how it applies to all environments. This is the first module where you get your hands dirty and really get an idea of what SharePoint is doing under the hood with all of those databases.

  • Expanding Your Farm
  • Adding Servers
  • Multiple SPSs
  • Farming out MOSS7 services

Managing SharePoint Server

  • Best practices for Disaster Recovery for MOSS07
  • Identify guidelines for assessing the impact of the backup process on a server
  • Identify guidelines when planning to restore SharePoint Server from a failure
  • Sequence the steps in the SharePoint Server restore process
  • Sequence the steps to prepare the recovery server for a restore operation
  • Identify considerations for planning an enterprise-level implementation of SharePoint Server

SharePoint Server Farm Mechanics

In this module we cover a number of miscellaneous but important topics such as Search index administration, SQL Server configuration and tuning, the Configuration Analyzer, Service Pack and hot fix deployment, backups, and filters.

  • SPS Content Sources
  • Improving Search Results
  • Crawl Limitations
  • Optimizing search performance
  • Relevance Ranking
  • Searching Business Data Catalogs
  • Use the Search Result Center

Migrating from SPS03 to MOSS07
