Heavyduty Farming and Deploying to the Extranet

We will cover large-scale server farms, SharePoint over the WAN, shared services, and the extranet.

Description

This three-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to design and deploy Microsoft® SharePoint® Server 2007 technologies across the WAN.

Outline

Objectives:

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Architecting and configuring SharePoint for use over the WAN
• Making appropriate use of Shared Services
• Deploy a SharePoint Server Web Farm
• Deploying SharePoint to the Extranet

SharePoint over the WAN

We cover accessing portals and sites from across various topologies and the bandwidth requirements that go with it. In the Lab we cover installing WSS separately and connecting it to a separate portal. Also, we cover how to install a specific WSS site into its own database.

Implementing Shared Services

This module teaches what shared services are and when to use them. In the Lab you will learn how to enable shared services on a portal. We also explain the differences between inter-farm vs. intra-farm shared services.

SharePoint to the Extranet Configuration>

In this module we go deep into Extranet configuration for SharePoint. You will learn about different authentication methods and their impact on SharePoint. You will complete labs on setting up certificate services, creating certificates, using them to publish SharePoint securely. You will also learn how to set SharePoint up for anonymous access, how to configure alternate portal access, and how to point multiple portals to the same content database.

Prerequisites:

Experience with basic server administration is strongly recommended also SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services basic skills are expected. You will need experience with an Internet browser product, as well as power user experience in any application in the Microsoft Office Suite. Information management experience is also helpful.
